The following books would be useful to a person who is not all that familiar with Model A Fords to gain a basic understanding of these vehicles.

  1. THE BEGINNER’S GUIDE TO THE MODEL “A” FORD 1928-1931,Les Pearson, 2013. This book is in color and highlighted with numerous pictures throughout the book.  The book contains a general overview of the various body styles, differences in chassis and bodies over the four years of production, how to start and drive, maintenance and repair of the Model “A” Ford.

  2. HENRY’S LADY “AN ILLISTRATED HISTORY OF THE MODEL A FORD”, Ray Miller, 1972.  This book is in black and white with a few pages in the middle of the book showing various models in color.  The content of the book is aligned by models (The Phaetons, The Roadsters, etc) and the information is defined in pictures and the text of the captions associated with the pictures.

  3. THE FORD MODEL ‘A’ AS HENRY BUILT IT, A COLOR, UPHOLSTERY AND PRODUCTION FACTS BOOK, De Angelis, Francis and Henry, 1975.  This book is all in black and white. The first four sections cover the overall technical information on the Model A and the last four sections deal with the vehicle models for each of the four years of production.

  4. FORD MODEL A, COLLECTOR’S ORIGINALITY GUIDE, Jim Schild, 2009.  This book is in color and contains numerous color pictures of the Model A to illustrate model and year differences as well as different color and upholstery combinations.  The book contains four major chapters, one for each of the four years of production starting with a detailed description of the 1928 year and any the changes in subsequent years.

The following books are probably the most definitive and complete books available on the repair, maintenance, and upgrade of the Model A Ford.

  1. MODEL A FORD TROUBLE SHOOTING & DIAGNOSTICS, A Complete Guide for Trouble Analysis and Testing, Les Andrews, 2000. A well organized and well written 174 page book that covers the detailed instructions for troubleshooting and testing components and systems on the original Model A Ford.  Best when used in conjunction with Model A Ford Mechanics Handbook Volume 1 book defined below.

  2. MODEL A FORD MECHANICS HANDBOOK VOL I (2 COPIES), A Complete Guide for Service and Maintenance, Les Andrews, 2002. A well organized and well written 408 page book that covers the detail instructions for servicing, repair, and maintenance of the original Model A Ford.  Best when used in conjunction with the Model A Ford Troubleshooting & Diagnostics book defined above.

  3. MODEL A FORD MECHANICS HANDBOOK VOL II (2 COPIES), Les Andrews, 2003.  A well organized and well written book that covers detailed instructions for the installation of aftermarket accessories, installing top wood, installing hydraulic brakes and increasing performance, speed and power for touring

  4. RESTORERS MODEL A SHOP MANUAL, Jim Schild, 1985. This older Model A repair and maintenance manual describe those efforts in a more remove and replace process rather than a refurbishment process.

  5. RICKS MODEL “A” SHOP MANUAL, Rick Freeman, 1974. This older Model A repair and maintenance manual describes those efforts in a more remove and replace process rather than a refurbishment process.

The following is a reference book for the Model A paint and color.  There are no books in the technical library that are a good reference for selecting or installing Model A upholstery.`

  1. MODEL A FORD PAINT AND FINISH GUIDE, Revision 4, MAFCA, 2020.  This book is the latest issue of the Model A paint and finish guide. The authors of this book employed a highly capable printing company to ensure that the paint chips in the guide are an exact match of the original colors.  The size of the paint chips was greatly increased to allow modern paint color matching techniques. The guide also contains tables of the available paint colors for each year and model, body sketches where lower body, upper body and pinstripe paint are to be applied, and interior, chassis and fender painting.

  2. MODEL A FORD PAINT AND FINISH GUIDE, Revision 3, MAFCA, 2020.  This book is the previous issue of the Model A paint and finish guide. The authors of this book employed a highly capable printing company to ensure that the paint chips in the guide are an exact match of the original colors.  The small size of the paint chips does not allow modern paint color matching techniques. The guide also contains tables of the available paint colors for each year and model, body sketches where lower body, upper body and pinstripe paint are to be applied, and interior, chassis and fender painting.

The following books are reprints of original Ford publications available for reference.
